National Union “Avitalia”: Presentation
Avitalia is the union of poultry and rabbit breeders constituted subject to EEC Regulation no. 1360/78. It is the only association of the sector acknowledged by the Ministerial Decree on Farming Policies no. 9791031 since 20th June 1997.
Avitalia was set-up in 1994 thanks to the intuition of a group of farsighted producers who realised that breeders lacked adequate representation in line with the directives of the European Union. The establishment of 5 regional associations, which soon became 7, very shortly lead to 2000 associate members:
- A.E.R.A.C. Associazione Emiliano Romagnola Avi-Cunicola (Association of poultry and rabbit breeders of the Emilia Romagna region)
- A.P.A.A.C. Associazione Produttori Abruzzesi Avi-Cunicoli (Association of poultry and rabbit breeders of the Abruzzo region)
- AS.PRO.AVI.C. Associazione Produttori Avicoli e Cunicoli Piemontesi (Association of poultry and rabbit breeders of the Piedmont region)
- AVIMOLISE Associazione Produttori Avicunicoli Molisani (Association of poultry and rabbit breeders of the Molise region)
- AVI-UMBRIA
- CONIGLIO VENETO Associazione Produttori Conigli del Veneto (Association of rabbit breeders of the Veneto region)
Some major Italian businesses became directly associated in of 2005:

| Az.Agr.Guidi di Roncofreddo s.s. | |

together with the only three organisations of poultry breeders acknowledged up to date, subject to recent standards:
AVICOOP
AVIPUGLIA
Avitalia, with its 65%, therefore currently boasts the largest Italian representation of the poultry breeding sector.
The same applies to the rabbit breeding sector too, where it represents approximately 30% of breeders and over 38% of the compartment produce.
The food chains are represented in full from selection, multiplication, incubation, feeds, breeders, edible egg packaging centres, butchering and meat processing.
